Barranco Camp

Overview

The Barranco Wall on Mt Kilimanjaro forms part of your early morning exercise on day 4 for climbers on the Machame, Shira, Umbwe and Lemosho Route.

The Barranco Wall looks a lot more ominous than it actually is. You need no technical climbing skills to be able to scale the Barranco wall.

Barranco Camp offers basic accommodation in the form of mountain tents.
The campsite provides a limited number of tents that are typically shared among trekkers.
The tents are designed to withstand the mountain’s harsh weather conditions and are equipped with sleeping pads or mattresses for added comfort.
While the accommodation is simple, it offers a cozy and secure shelter for trekkers to rest and recharge.

As a high-altitude campsite, Barranco Camp has limited facilities due to its remote location.
Basic toilet facilities, such as pit latrines or portable toilets, are available for trekkers to use.
There may be a designated area for washing, although facilities are typically limited to basic handwashing stations or buckets of water.
The focus of Barranco Camp is on providing a safe and comfortable place to rest during the trek, rather than extensive facilities.

Meals at Barranco Camp are typically provided as part of the Kilimanjaro trekking package.
Trekkers can expect nourishing and hearty meals prepared by the mountain’s support staff.
The menu usually includes a combination of local and international dishes to cater to different dietary preferences and requirements.
Meals are typically served in communal dining tents, allowing trekkers to socialize and share experiences with fellow climbers.
