Day 1:
Nairobi to Laikipia (Approximately 4.5–5 Hours by Road)
Your walking safari adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading north through Kenya’s fertile central highlands towards the wildlife-rich plains of Laikipia. Arrive at Sweetwaters Serena Camp in time for lunch and a chance to settle into your beautifully appointed tent overlooking the wilderness. In the afternoon, meet your professional walking guide and conservancy ranger for an introductory walking safari. This gentle walk serves as both an orientation and an opportunity to immerse yourself in the African bush. Full-Day Walking Safari in Laikipia Conservancy
Today is dedicated almost entirely to exploring the conservancy on foot. After an early breakfast, set out with your experienced guide for an extended walking safari through some of Laikipia’s most beautiful habitats.
Walking at a relaxed pace allows you to appreciate the bush in a way impossible from a safari vehicle. Rather than simply searching for large mammals, you’ll discover the intricate details that make this ecosystem so extraordinary. Learn to interpret tracks left by elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, and antelopes, observe dung beetles at work, identify medicinal shrubs, and gain a deeper understanding of the delicate relationships that sustain wildlife.
Depending on wildlife movements, you may encounter elephants browsing peacefully through acacia woodlands, giraffes feeding on thorn trees, herds of plains zebra, impalas, elands, waterbucks, and a rich variety of birdlife. Your guide will also explain the conservancy’s pioneering work in protecting endangered species such as the black rhino and Grevy’s zebra.
After a picnic lunch in the bush, continue exploring another section of the conservancy before returning to camp in the late afternoon. As evening falls, gather around the fire to reflect on the day’s adventures while listening to the sounds of the African wilderness.
