Samburu to the north of Nairobi hosts Shaba and Buffalo Springs Reserves. O the way, we shall pass the country’s tallest peak, snow-capped Mt. Kenya. In Samburu, you’ll find abundant wildlife as the reserve features plenty of big cats and over 900 elephants. Neighboring Shaba and Buffalo Springs offer a dramatic choice of scenic terrain – from riverine forests to old lava flow, to marshes and springs. There’s so much variety of wildlife and landscape awaiting you on this short 3-day adventure.
The exclusivity of Samburu makes it such an attractive area for tourist. Here you will be treated to the sight of such unique wildlife like, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, and the Somali Ostrich.
Your safari also includes visits to neighboring reserves – Buffalo Springs features a volcanic landscape broken up by forest and marsh. At Shaba National Reserve you’ll find a greener landscape than Samburu with forests, woodlands, and even the iconic Shaba Hill Volcano. Combined, these three parks are a visual feast of scenic terrain and wildlife.

Itinerary
Our driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel at 0730hrs or Airport and drive north to Samburu National Reserve to arrive in time for lunch at the reserved lodge or camp. After lunch, you will proceed for an afternoon game drive from 1600hrs until dusk.
Dinner and overnight at Samburu Sopa Lodge /Samburu Simba Lodge or a similar lodge.

We’ll meet the new day with a game drive to look for lion, leopard, cheetah and whoever else might show up in the dawning light.
Samburu is also known as one of the two regions where conservationist Joy Adams raised Elsa the Lioness, later made famous in the book and movie, Born Free.
Samburu Game Reserve offers a wide range of attractions. It is home to the Samburu tribe who are also pastoralists. Owasso Nyiro River which runs along the southern boundary is home to crocodiles and hippos with many animals visiting to drink during the heat of the day. In Samburu, you are likely to spot buffalo, leopard, lion, cheetah, Grevy's zebra, Beisa Oryx, reticulated giraffe, and other plains game.

Our final morning in the park will give us opportunities to add more wildlife sightings to our checklist. But not all the park’s animal activity is limited to mammals. Samburu hosts over 350 species of birdlife including kingfisher, vulture, guinea fowl, egret, falcon, and eagle. You’ll have plenty to keep watching for on the land, in the springs, and overhead.
Heading back to the city, we’ll break up the drive with a stop for lunch.
Later check out and depart for Nairobi with a stopover on the way for lunch to arrive in Nairobi late afternoon. Drop off at the hotel or the airport to catch your flight back home.
